In-State Tuition for Immigrants in Texas

Currently, a Texas law (SB 1528) allows immigrant students to attend Texas public universities or community colleges regardless of their immigration status and pay in-state tuition if they meet the following requirements:

  •  Live in Texas for at least 3 years prior to high school graduation
  •  Graduate from a Texas public or private high school, or obtain a GED
  •  Provide to the institution an affidavit stating that the individual will file an application to become a permanent resident at the earliest opportunity he or she is eligible to do so
Students who meet the requirements for SB 1528 might also be eligible to receive state financial aid. If the student has completed Texas' recommended high school program they can receive the Texas Grant.
