Austin, TX - After a long 60 day wait the Department of Homeland Security has released an application that would allow thousands of American youth protection from deportation and work permits. In order to mark this historic day United We Dream is holding a Day of Action across America to celebrate this historic landmark and to advocate for a truly permanent solution to this issue.
In Austin, local members of University Leadership Initiative will launch an application campaign that equips DREAMers with tools to properly execute these applications. The campaign will join the resources of United We Dream and its partners to offer assistance to DREAMers to stay in America to complete their education and contribute to the economy.
Across the U.S., DREAMers will present the first applications for submission under the new guidelines to the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Service (USCIS). They will hold press events to answer questions and advocate for a truly permanent solution. This is an important step but these aspiring Americans and their families will only reach permanent resolution through passage of the DREAM Act and comprehensive immigration reform legislation by Congress.
At this press event, DREAMers will share their stories of how meaningful this new policy is for their dreams to reach their fullest potential as aspiring Americans.
